The Hand Ditch of Lumpkin County
by Thomas H. Gresham
This ditch, constructed to supply water for hydraulic mining, was rather spectacular in that one of it's trestles was 205 feet high. In White County, there were three long ditches - The Hamby Ditch on Hamby Mountain, the Roberts Ditch from Annie Ruby Falls to the hill above the Hardman House and the Long Ditch or 21-Mile Ditch from Kellum Valley to the Loud Mine at Slabtown. Eventually, one may relate the history of these ditches.
